Marriage Advice

I'd say, in general, I'm a big fan of learning things the hard way and not normally one to take advice. However, last night I received a brilliant piece of marriage advice from my cousin-in-law, also Mrs. K, which I decided to test.

Here's a little background on the situation: our laundry machines are in the basement and I am terrified of falling down the stairs while carrying laundry, since I have a history of falling downstairs and falling in general. This being the case, I always ask my darling husband to carry the laundry up and down the stairs for me. Sometimes this takes several tries before he actually does it. Sometimes I even give up and do it myself.

Mrs. K's advice was to put the laundry basket right in the middle of the doorway so he trips on it. Then he will carry it downstairs.

Since the laundry had already been done and was ready to go back upstairs, I put the basket right in the middle of the lowest landing on the stairs. Instead of tripping on it or stepping over it, my husband picked it up and carried it upstairs ... without even being asked!

Brilliant!

Game Night!

Saturday night Mr. K and I went to visit our dear friends the W's at their new apartment (which, BTW, is quite charming). I prepared this ridiculously easy Black Raspberry Cream Pie for dessert. I found the recipe while perusing the Hostess with the Mostess blog which redirected me to BHG. Here I am posing proudly with my creation.

I improvised a little bit and used the fat free cream cheese instead of the regular, fatty kind. I have to admit, I was kind of surprised it turned out purple not pink. Luckily purple is Mrs. W's favorite color. Here is the link to the recipe in case you'd like to try it also.

And the update on Game Night, I was second to lose at Monopoly behind Mr. W, who apparently is even worse at managing money than I am. Shame on Mrs. W for owning BOTH the Boardwalk and Park Place ... and then putting houses on them! No one can survive paying $2,000 rent in Monopoly money! After both Mr. V and Miss R were knocked out, it came down to Mrs. W and my husband. The game lasted 3 hours and eventually Mr. K conceded!

Philosophical Friday: Part 1

Everyone enjoys a good philosophical statement to get their Friday going!

Thursday's Material Wishlist

The forecast of mid-70 degree temperatures for tomorrow REALLY gets me in the mood for fall! Below find my early fall 2009 obsessions. No, this does not give you license to go out and purchase every item I am lusting after because you happen to like it too! No one appreciates being ripped off without their permission!

First, the Levi's skinny jeans. I jumped on board with this fad last year with a $12 pair from Forever 21. While I'm still not prepared to shell out $200 for a pair of Seven for all Mankind or Citizens of Humanity, I am ready to upgrade to $70 Levi's.

Lust, lust, lust! My dear friend (and former coworker, college roommate, etc.) who turned me on to Tory Burch back in 2006 has been talking me out of purchasing yet another pair of over priced shoes for the past 2 weeks. I am seriously obsessed with this Lawrence Tassel Moc. It's going to be very difficult to restrain myself! Tory- if you're reading this, I need a Private Sale - STAT! Drool. I love ANYTHING Coach. Especially this Patent Spotlight bag. It is very bright and unlike me but I think I must have it. It reminds me of playing dress-up!

Totally FIENDING for this J.Crew necklace. The only turn off is the $150 price tag that comes with it. I'm sure I could find something similar at TJ Maxx and DIY the bows to get the same effect.

While not exactly the long cardigan I wanted for fall 2009, I do love this one from Banana Republic. Too bad it is sold out online in grey size small. Guess I'll have to resort to actually shopping in a store!

The thing I love most about skinny jeans is their wearability with knee high boots. The Cindy Slouch from Frye is my current fave in flat, knee high boots. I also loved the Joelle boot from Coach but think the Frye style is more casual, day time chic.

Stay tuned for more iterations of the Material Wishlist. Also coming soon: The Christmas List

Monthiversary

Well the turkey tacos surprise didn't end up going as planned. My usual 60 minute commute turned into a 120 minute commute when TWO detours took me an hour out of my way. I arrived home FUMING from having to spend such a long time in my car but was pleasantly surprised that my wonderful husband had gotten me a "monthiversary" gift! I am now the proud owner of a brand new Garmin Nuvi Navigation system - flat screen and all! Sweet! My husband is SO wonderful that he even cooked the turkey tacos since I was in such a pissy mood.

First Post

So ... this is my first blog post. Today I am celebrating my 1 month (yes, month) wedding anniversary. The first month has been amazing! We spent the first 2 weeks honeymooning in Aruba and have since returned to work, organized our basement and purchased patio furniture. In celebration of our 1 month anniversary, I am going to prepare some LOVELY home made turkey tacos for dinner tonight. How Martha Stewart of me!
